About Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum
Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum displays rare archival collection items including an autographed 78 record signed by Sun Records legend Roy Orbison and the autographed bass owned by Donald "Duck" Dunn of Booker T. and The MGs. Visitors move through seven galleries at their own pace, guided by a digital audio tour featuring over 300 minutes of information and more than 100 songs. The exhibition, based on one created by the Smithsonian Institution in 2000, traces Memphis music from rural field hollers and sharecroppers of the 1930s through Sun, Stax, and Hi Records, to the city's musical heyday in the 70s and global influence. The museum houses more than 30 instruments and 40 costumes alongside three audio-visual programs. Located on Beale Street at the corner of Highway 61 inside FedExForum, the museum charges admission for adults and youth. Shelby County residents receive free admission on Tuesdays with valid photo ID, according to memphisrocknsoul.org.
