About Museum of Appalachia
Museum of Appalachia features 35 log cabins, barns, and historic structures across 65 acres that visitors explore on self-guided tours through a recreated Appalachian pioneer village. Three exhibit buildings hold over 250,000 artifacts including folk art, musical instruments, baskets, quilts, and Native American pieces collected over decades. The grounds include free-range farm animals, gardens, and split-rail fences surrounding the authentic mountain community. The museum offers hands-on programs such as broommaking classes with Aviary Broom Co. and pinch pot pottery workshops using traditional techniques. Seasonal events include Sheep Shearing Days, Fall Heritage Days, Candlelight Christmas, and Independence Day Anvil Shoot Celebration. An on-site restaurant serves Southern Appalachian country cooking, and a gift shop stocks locally made products.
