About Museum of Appalachia

The Museum of Appalachia spans 65 acres in Clinton and recreates an authentic Appalachian community through 35 log cabins, barns, churches, schools, and gardens surrounding a historic farm site. Visitors roam the grounds on self-guided tours, exploring structures filled with over 250,000 artifacts housed in three exhibit buildings. Collections include folk art, musical instruments, baskets, quilts, and Native American artifacts. Farm animals roam freely throughout the property. The museum also operates a restaurant specializing in Southern Appalachian country cooking, with lunch service and a gift shop featuring locally made products. Founded in 1969, the museum preserves the material culture and daily life of Appalachian pioneers through the objects they left behind. Group tours and educational programs serve schools and homeschool groups. The venue hosts weddings, parties, and corporate events in its banquet hall.
