The Knoxville Museum of Art in downtown Knoxville presents exhibitions exploring visual culture from East Tennessee and beyond. Visitors explore permanent installations including Higher Ground: A Century of the Visual Arts in East Tennessee, which features works from the mid-nineteenth to late-twentieth century by regional artists including Knoxville natives Catherine Wiley and Beauford Delaney. The museum also displays Facets of Modern and Contemporary Glass, showcasing twentieth and twenty-first century glass art, and nine Thorne Rooms, miniature historic interiors created in the 1930s. Temporary exhibitions rotate throughout the year. The four-story building, sheathed in locally quarried pink Tennessee marble, houses a 53,200 square-foot facility designed by renowned architect Edward Larrabee Barnes. General admission is free. The museum is fully accessible to visitors using wheelchairs, with wheelchair loans available at the information desk. It sits in World's Fair Park with free parking nearby.
