About Historic Westwood

Historic Westwood is the restored home, studio, and gallery of artist Adelia Armstrong Lutz in Knoxville. Visitors tour the Queen Anne style mansion completed in 1890 by the Baumann Brothers, Knoxville's first architectural firm, which incorporates hints of Richardson Romanesque design. The house served as both residence and workspace for Lutz and her husband John throughout her artistic career. The property remained with the Lutz family for over a century until Knox Heritage acquired and restored it after 2013, raising over one million dollars for renovation work. Guests explore the rooms where Lutz lived and created her artwork, viewing the spaces integral to her life as an artist. In 2022, Historic Westwood received induction into the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Historic Artists' Homes and Studios program, making it the only recognized home of this distinction in Tennessee. The museum is one of seven historic house museums included in the Historic House Museums of Knoxville network.
