About McIntosh Preserve

McIntosh Preserve in Plant City consists of approximately 363 acres of protected natural land where visitors hike interconnected trails through mixed hardwood hammocks, pine flatwoods, and cypress domes. The main trail system covers 2.5 miles and leads to the Osprey Overlook, a 30-foot observation tower accessible via a 1.5-mile round trip from the parking area. From the tower, additional trails branch out across the preserve. The landscape supports diverse wildlife including Bald Eagles, Hawks, Quail, Bobcats, Deer, and Alligators, with over 160 bird species documented at the site. A converted prairie wetland occupies the eastern portion and removes pollutants flowing toward the Hillsborough River. The preserve opens daily from sunrise to sunset and has been designated one of three birdability sites in the Tampa Bay area for accessibility. Educational signage throughout the property provides information about the natural communities and ecological systems visitors encounter.
