About H. B. Plant Railroad Historical Society

H. B. Plant Railroad Historical Society operates five model train layouts in G, O-27, N, and HO scales at its headquarters in Plant City, Florida. Visitors watch operational dioramas featuring detailed miniature scenes and working trains. The HO layout called Mineral Valley depicts 1900-1910 Plant City with scratch-built buildings from historical photographs, a 144-foot mainline with dual tracks, lumber and mining roads, a large city section with freight and passenger yards, and multiple engine facilities. The O-27 layout, designed for young visitors, occupies 60 square feet in a loop configuration. The Carwin A. Baxter Museum displays over 1,500 railroad memorabilia items and artifacts documenting Plant City's railroad heritage since 1883. The society maintains a library with more than 4,800 reference materials including magazines, books, and manuscripts. The restored Historic Plant City Depot houses the Raymond M. Myers Museum, featuring interpretative exhibits on railroad history, Henry Bradley Plant, and a replica 1900-1950 ticket office with an HO layout of early Plant City.
