About Living Memorial Sculpture Garden

The Living Memorial Sculpture Garden occupies 136 acres on the northwestern slope of Mount Shasta, 13 miles north of Weed on Highway 97 in Siskiyou County. Visitors walk through a forest of tens of thousands of trees planted by volunteers as a living tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in war. The garden features metal sculptures created by artist Dennis Smith, including the "Why?" group, designed to honor all veterans in conflict and in peace. The Hot LZ Wall and Memorial Wall commemorate individual service members, with a name locator guide and memorial wall application available for visitors to search and add names. The garden began as the vision of Vietnam veteran and artist Ric A. Delugo in 1987, expanding over time to honor all veterans affected by war. Founded in 1988 and maintained by the Kiwanis Club of Weed/Lake Shastina, the garden serves as a place for reflection, remembrance, healing, and reconciliation dedicated to all veterans and everyone in the community.
