About Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens

Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens occupies ten acres of hilly, wooded terrain in Dunsmuir City Park, where visitors walk trails through meadows and gardens bordering the Upper Sacramento River. The gardens showcase native white dogwood, Shasta lilies, and fragrant native azaleas alongside introduced plantings including rhododendrons, hostas, alpine plants, ferns, and Japanese maples. Spring and summer annuals provide seasonal color throughout the grounds. The park includes a pollinator garden, the Alexander Dunsmuir Fountain, playground areas, picnic sites, and fishing access to the blue ribbon trout stream. Walking trails meander through native and introduced plant material, offering viewing opportunities for all visitors. The meadow serves as a venue for the Tribute to the Trees fundraising concert and other community events. The gardens sit in far northern California immediately off Interstate 5.
