About Lebanon Museum and History Center

Lebanon Museum and History Center occupies the Historic Castle Heights Military Building in Lebanon, Tennessee. Visitors explore exhibits covering the people, places, and experiences that shaped the city's development. The museum reopened to the public in 2021 after a decade of closure, featuring updated displays throughout its galleries. Lebanon was founded in 1802 around a natural spring called Sinking Springs, growing from cedar log buildings into a city with significant historical importance. The town square, modeled after the Philadelphia Square Plan, represents an excellent example of late nineteenth and early twentieth century commercial architecture and appears on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum documents this evolution through its varied exhibits, including displays on local history, cultural heritage, and architectural significance. Individual visitors may explore at their own pace during regular weekday hours, with group visits of ten or more available by advance arrangement.
