About Knox County Historical Society
The Knox County Historical Society Museum in Mount Vernon preserves and displays the history of Knox County through a nearly 15,000 square foot facility on Harcourt Road. Visitors explore diverse exhibits spanning local artifacts, including Paul Lynde's T-Bird automobile, a unique quilt collection, antique toys, steam-powered tractors, stained glass windows, and computers. The museum maintains a permanent research library available to members and guests. The society also operates the Dan Emmett Birthplace Home and hosts group tours at both locations and other area historic sites. Monthly programs and speakers are offered throughout the year, with educational presentations available to schools, churches, and organizations. The museum publishes The Knox Historian newsletter and creates changing exhibits focused on local history. Staff provide knowledgeable personal tours of the extensive collections. The museum operates on a seasonal schedule with regular hours published on the society's website; group tours can be arranged by appointment.
