About Johnston Farm And Indian Agency
Johnston Farm & Indian Agency in Piqua celebrates two thousand years of Ohio history on a peaceful two-hundred-acre park. Visitors tour the 1815 Johnston House, 1808 Double Pen Barn, 1815 Springhouse, and 1828 Cider House, experiencing frontier family life as it appeared in 1829 when John Johnston served as U.S. Indian Agent for western Ohio. A modern museum resembling Fort Piqua's blockhouse style displays exhibits about Eastern Woodland Indians and the Pickawillany village site. Guests ride the General Harrison, a replica seventy-foot canal boat, and explore the Adena Indian Mound and Earthwork on the grounds. The site interprets Native American cultures in the Miami Valley, European settler relationships, frontier agriculture, and Ohio's canal era. School programs address these themes alongside state curriculum standards, making the location a resource for understanding how these historical elements intersected in early Ohio.
