The John Deere Historic Site in Dixon, Illinois tells the story of the inventor who revolutionized agriculture. Visitors watch live blacksmith demonstrations in a replica of John Deere's original shop, where he forged the first commercially successful steel plow. The site includes the original John Deere family home, furnished with period household items that show how pioneers cooked, cleaned, and lived. Guests can stand in the exact location where Deere built his manufacturing business and view excavated artifacts from the site. Carriage rides, pumpkin decorating, crafts, games, and face painting are available during Fall Fest, along with a vintage tractor show and live music. The site also hosts the Grand Detour Arts Festival. General admission is free. The historic site operates seasonally and publishes hours on its website.
