About Hanover Fire Museum

The Greater Hanover Area Fire Museum preserves over two centuries of firefighting heritage in the historic Eagle Fire Station, built in 1914 and located in downtown Hanover, Pennsylvania. Visitors explore how firefighting evolved from early leather bucket brigades through hand-drawn carts and pumps to horse-drawn apparatus and finally motorized equipment. The museum displays an 1882 Silsby Steamer, hand-pulled pumps, and a coffee grinder-type fire pump, all of which served the greater Hanover area. Exhibits include a fully operational 1911 Gamewell Fire Alarm System that visitors can interact with by pulling an actual fire alarm box. Additional displays showcase fire vehicles, photographs and names of historic fire horses, medals, parade ribbons, fire helmets, EMS equipment, nozzle collections, and firefighting tools. Staff members, mostly retired volunteer and career firefighters, share knowledge about the items on display. The museum suits firefighters, family members, and history enthusiasts interested in learning about local fire services heritage.
