About Children of Gettysburg 1863®

Children of Gettysburg 1863® is an interactive history museum housed in the historic Rupp House in Gettysburg. Visitors touch, listen and learn through galleries including "Growing Up in Gettysburg 1863," "The Soldiers are Coming," "Surviving the Battle" and "Remembering Gettysburg." The museum tells the stories of children and teens who lived in Gettysburg during and after the 1863 battle, including William Bayly, Albertus McCreary, Sadie Bushman and Tillie Pierce. Activities include feeling the beat of a drum, listening to battle rumors and completing a story scavenger hunt to find objects and gain understanding of children's experiences. Visitors also engage with first-hand accounts and learn from the Gettysburg Address and National Cemetery connections to historic preservation. Living historians interact with families on select dates and summer weekends on the Rupp House grounds. The museum suits families with children in grades K-5 and those young at heart seeking hands-on history exploration. Admission charges apply and tickets are sold online through the venue's website.
