About Erie Canal Discovery Center

Erie Canal Discovery Center occupies a c.1843 canal stone building next to the historic Flight of Five and Locks 34 & 35 in Lockport, New York. Visitors explore interactive exhibits about the Erie Canal's role in regional history and learn how to operate a lock through hands-on demonstrations. The center displays artifacts and educational materials related to canal commerce, the canawlers who worked the waterways, and 175 years of Niagara County heritage. A museum shop offers books and local items. The Discovery Center is a collaborative resource for lifelong learning operated by the Niagara History Center, which preserves and interprets the diverse cultural heritage of people, places and events connected to the Erie Canal. Admission is $6 for adults; children are free with a paying parent or guardian. Active duty military personnel and their dependents from the U.S. and Canada receive free admission as a Blue Star Museum. Tickets are sold online through niagarahistory.org.
