About Dr. Bob's Home

Dr. Bob's Home preserves the 1915 arts and crafts house in Akron where Dr. Bob Smith, co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, lived with his wife Anne for 34 years. Visitors tour the rooms where early AA members gathered in the 1930s and 1940s to discuss recovery and spiritual matters. The home features period furnishings and artifacts from this pivotal era. Next door, the Archive and Gift Gallery occupies a recently renovated house with custom display cabinets and updated lighting, housing historical documents and materials about AA's founding and growth. The site operates as a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the atmosphere of acceptance that enabled early members to achieve and maintain their recovery. Visitors can explore how this international fellowship began and examine the personal spaces where significant conversations about sobriety and spiritual principles took place.
