About Crystal Lake Historical Society

Crystal Lake Historical Society preserves and shares the history of Crystal Lake through exhibits, archives, and educational programs at the Colonel Palmer House and other historic structures. Visitors explore the Society's collections of printed and photographic resources in the archives library, learn about local heritage through quarterly newsletters, and attend Lunch and Learn events at the Colonel Palmer House. The organization documents the area's past through research into old buildings, families, and businesses, and maintains displays that tell the community's story. Volunteer opportunities include research, collection care, tours of historic sites, and work in the archives organizing files, books, and periodicals. Programs highlight local history such as the Camp Crystal Lake calendar, the S.O.S. headstone restoration effort at Crystal Lake Cemetery, and the history of the Crystal Lake Academy Building. Founded in 2000 by residents committed to preserving community heritage, the Society welcomes visitors and members in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Costumed interpreters present first-person stories about the life and times of Crystal Lake's early residents at Cemetery Walks.
