About Bonnet House Museum & Gardens

Bonnet House Museum & Gardens is a 35-acre historic artists' estate on Fort Lauderdale Beach where visitors explore the home and grounds created by Chicago artist Frederic Clay Bartlett and his wife Evelyn Fortune Lilly. The self-guided tour takes guests through the Main House to view Frederic's murals and faux paintings, and into his studio where examples of his easel art are displayed. Outdoors, meandering nature trails wind through one of the last preserved barrier-island habitats in South Florida, featuring five distinct ecosystems and four uniquely themed gardens. The property showcases one of the Southeast's largest orchid collections, with more than 3,000 specimens. Guided tours of the downstairs rooms are available with trained docents. The museum offers rotating fine art exhibits and yoga classes.
