About Bethel Historical Society & Museum
The Bethel Historical Society & Museum preserves the heritage of Bethel and surrounding areas through exhibits and artifacts. Visitors explore collections of artifacts, photographs, writings, and stories that document local history. The museum features special exhibits throughout the year, including displays of Civil War memorabilia such as James McMurchy's secret diary from Andersonville Prison Camp. The museum also plans an Ulysses S. Grant statue dedication. Children can attend Kids History Day events with games and prizes. Groups including classroom field trips, church groups, and homeschool organizations can arrange private tours by contacting the museum. The museum operates from the Grant Memorial Building, constructed in 1929 and 1930 in downtown Bethel. General admission is free, with free on-site parking available.
