About Arizona Railway Museum

The Arizona Railway Museum in Chandler presents restored railroad passenger cars and equipment from different eras of American rail travel. Visitors walk through twelve passenger cars on a self-guided tour, including Santa Fe "Hi-Level" coaches and lounge cars, observation cars named Vista Canyon and Denehotso, a dome car called Plaza Taos, a Superintendent's car, and a Southern Pacific horse car built in 1879. A display building houses smaller artifacts, a gift shop, and restrooms. The yard tour covers crushed rock surfacing and includes placards describing each piece's historical significance. The museum operates seasonally and opens weekends only. Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes, as the open-air yard requires walking and entering railroad cars involves climbing original stairs. The experience suits anyone interested in railroad history and preservation.
