About Anthracite Model Railroad Society

Anthracite Model Railroad Society is a model railroad club where visitors observe detailed operating layouts depicting railroad history in the greater Hazleton area during the mid-1900s. Members construct and maintain expansive model railroad layouts incorporating carpentry, electronics, model building, and photography. The club's primary layout features a downtown Hazleton scene circa 1940, complete with operating steam trains that visitors can watch traverse the tracks. A major recent construction project called The Helix connects the layout's lower and upper levels, allowing trains to move between different elevations. The layout also includes a section called Darkwater leading to The Helix. Visitors experience the hobby's various aspects through the detailed miniature landscape and working model trains. The Anthracite Model Railroad Society is located in Hazle Township.
