About Animal Place

Animal Place operates a 600-acre sanctuary in Grass Valley where visitors meet more than 200 rescued farmed animals including goats, sheep, rabbits, and birds. Guided public tours last 1.5 hours and involve roughly half a mile of walking, allowing visitors to encounter residents like Cocomel the sheep and Leon the rabbit while learning their stories. The facility charges admission for guided tours and publishes prices online. Visitors should wear pants and shin-high boots, which are available at the sanctuary in limited quantities. Self-guided tours are also available, though visitors cannot enter animal barns or pastures during these visits. Private tours can be arranged and include the option to visit cow and pig residents. Picnic areas are available on the property, with all food required to be vegan. The sanctuary shares its property with native wildlife including rattlesnakes, and visitor dogs are not permitted.
