Andrews Valley Rail Tours offers a 9-mile, 1.5-hour round-trip adventure on historic railroad tracks through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visitors depart from the Andrews Train Depot and choose from four ride types: electric pedal-assisted Railbikes requiring light pedaling for ages 8 and up; a Passenger Cart with swivel armchair seating for ages 4 and older; the Conductor Experience riding in a Fairmont Speeder alongside the conductor for ages 6 and up; or the Choo-Choo Speeder, a gas-powered locomotive-style vehicle for ages 8 and up. The journey travels over the river and through woods toward the historic Valley River Tunnel, hand-carved by workers in the 1890s. At the midway stop, visitors experience a 10–15 degree temperature drop inside the tunnel and may picnic. Along the route, riders encounter native wildflowers, mountain laurels, rhododendrons, and occasionally wildlife including cows, turkeys, herons, and bald eagles. Tours depart daily from the Andrews Train Depot in Andrews, North Carolina, with multiple departure times available throughout the day.
