Anclote Key Preserve State Park's picturesque 1887 lighthouse stands sentinel on the southern end of this 11,773-acre offshore park three miles from Tarpon Springs. The preserve encompasses four islands—Anclote Key, North Anclote Bar, South Anclote Bar and Three Rooker Island—where visitors swim and sunbathe along sandy beaches with calm Gulf waters. The park is home to at least 43 bird species, including American oystercatchers, bald eagles and piping plovers. Guests can grill picnics at the beach or pitch tents for primitive camping under the stars. Ferry services departing from Tarpon Springs' historic Sponge Docks provide access to the islands; those with private boats can arrange overnight stays. Visitors must bring their own water and supplies, as no provisions are available on the islands. Dogs are permitted only on North Anclote Bar. The park is accessible daily from 8 a.m. to sunset with no entrance fee required.
Hours: 8 a.m. to sunset
