About Wood River Museum and Visitor Center
The Wood River Museum and Visitor Center explores the town's varied past through exhibits and guided tours. Visitors view displays covering Standard Oil's impact on the community, the wild days of Benbow City, and life across different eras. Exhibits highlight significant events including the Flood and the opening of the world's largest swimming pool. A featured exhibit covers Lewis and Clark, with a video of their journey and a model of Camp DuBois. The adjacent Memorial Garden and Courtyard contains native Illinois plants and a gazebo dedicated to Lewis and Clark. The museum offers free guided tours explaining how to identify and construct Sears catalog houses, one of the largest concentrations in the country, particularly along the east side of specific blocks on 9th Street. General admission is free, with donations suggested for tours. The museum is located in Wood River, Illinois.
