About Jersey County Historical Society
The Jersey County Historical Society preserves and shares historical artifacts, records, and family genealogies from Jersey County's past. Visitors explore a three-acre site centered on the Cheney Mansion, built in 1827 as Jersey County's original frame house. The Museum features exhibits including antique school books, desks, and slates in a dedicated school area, alongside an extensive collection of Native American relics and a mammoth bone and tooth in the Flautt Addition. The Genealogy Research Center houses extensive records covering Jersey, Greene, and Calhoun Counties, with historian and genealogist Lois Lock available for research assistance. Historic buildings on the grounds include the Lone Star School, a one-room schoolhouse from the late 1800s and early 1900s, Union Forest Church, and three log cabins: McAdams, Plummer, and Hagen. The society hosts seasonal events including the Apple Festival. The Jersey County Historical Society is located in Jerseyville, Illinois.
