The Tennessee Room at Jackson-Madison County Library houses a non-circulating special collection devoted to genealogical and local historical research. Visitors conduct research using over 5,000 books and more than 1,945 microfilm rolls containing Madison County Records, Tennessee Census schedules from 1810 to 1930, Jackson newspapers dating to 1823, Tennessee Death Indexes and Death Certificates from 1908 to 1957, and other historical documents. The collection also includes maps, Jackson city directories, funeral records, vertical files, and photographs. The Tennessee Room maintains a complete set of back issues of Family Findings, published by the Mid-West Tennessee Genealogical Society. Online resources include Tennessee newspapers from six cities across all three grand divisions of the state, accessible through library card login. The room pays tribute to Emma Inman Williams, the first Tennessee Room librarian, whose book Historic Madison remains a primary source on the county's early history.
