The Sunburst Railbikes in Santa Paula operates two-person electric-assist bikes on a historic railroad line built by Southern Pacific in 1887, letting riders pedal through Ventura County's citrus and avocado groves. The Railbikes to the Citrus Groves route covers eight miles in two hours, passing orchards where visitors can stop at Prancer's Farm to pick fresh produce, meet animals, and purchase picnic or charcuterie options before returning to the historic Santa Paula Depot. The seasonal Railbikes to the Pumpkin Patch follows the same route but extends to 2.5 hours, including admission to the pumpkin patch and time for festive activities. Extended three-hour Wednesday rides toward Fillmore add extra distance for those seeking longer adventures. Each bike weighs about 250 pounds, rides on four steel wheels, requires no steering or balancing, and pairs traditional pedaling with silent electric assist. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Weekday rides Wednesday through Friday save 15 percent through November 30 according to the site, with tickets sold online at sunbursttrain.com.
