About The Flower Mound

The Flower Mound is a historic twelve-acre native prairie preserve located in Flower Mound, Texas, named for the wildflowers that flourish across its landscape. Nineteenth-century settlers established the landmark's name based on the profusion of blooms that naturally grow there. Visitors explore the site on foot, accessing the main gate entrance via the parking lot or an additional entrance along Flower Mound Road with quick access to a large shade tree and table. The Flower Mound hosts the annual Easter Sunrise Service, drawing over two thousand attendees who gather on top of the mound for this forty-year tradition organized by the Summit Club, the Flower Mound Foundation, and Women of Flower Mound. Volunteer work days invite residents to participate in invasive species control and prairie preservation efforts. The site also serves as a destination for learning about local natural and cultural history through blog posts covering prairie plants, wildlife, cowboys and early settlers. The Flower Mound was designated a Texas State Historic Site in 1984.
