About SunWatch Village

SunWatch Village is a prehistoric archaeological site and visitor center in Dayton that preserves the remains of a 12th-century Fort Ancient culture settlement. Visitors explore evidence of a complex, planned community through excavated dwellings, a central plaza, houses, food storage pits, tools, pottery, and other artifacts that reveal the daily life and social structure of the Fort Ancient peoples. The site's circular layout and celestial alignments demonstrate the inhabitants' sophisticated understanding of astronomy and seasonal cycles. The village offers insight into the traditions and innovations of Indigenous peoples who lived in the region centuries before European contact. Families with children under sixteen, accompanied by an adult, can tour the preserved archaeological remains on weekends. The site also hosts the Ohio 250 Lecture Series, which explores Ohio's past through Indigenous perspectives and archaeology. Tickets are sold online through the venue's website.
