About Sterne-Hoya House Museum and Library

The Sterne-Hoya House Museum and Library in Nacogdoches is an 1830 dogtrot house that offers visitors a tour of two distinct historical periods. Built by Adolphus Sterne, a prominent merchant and Texas Revolution leader, the house remained with the Sterne family until 1869, then passed to the von der Hoya family before becoming a public museum in 1958. Guests explore period rooms furnished with antiques and family heirlooms that illustrate the Sterne family's role during the Texas Revolution era and the Victorian Period under Hoya family occupation. The museum features a Texas history library and one of the earliest wine cellars in Texas. Tours are available Wednesday through Saturday, with general admission free. School groups and large parties may arrange guided visits by contacting the Historic Sites Department. The house also hosts an annual Victorian Christmas Dinner event.
