Naranjo Museum of Natural History in Lufkin showcases an extensive collection of fossils and prehistoric artifacts built over decades of paleontological work. Visitors explore exhibits featuring a 26-foot-tall Hadrosaur skeleton, a Tyrannosaurus Rex life-size replica, a fully-grown Woolly Mammoth, unhatched dinosaur eggs, and a Mosasaur fossil. The museum includes hands-on dig pits where guests can excavate replicas like real paleontologists, and interactive red buttons throughout activate hologram-style explanations from Dr. Naranjo about each exhibit. The collection contains several thousand specimens spanning ancient cultures and the natural world. A museum visit requires 45 minutes to an hour to view all exhibits. The museum operates Monday through Saturday mornings through early evening and Sunday afternoons through early evening. The museum is located on Highway 59 South in Lufkin and charges admission, with prices published on its website.
Hours: Monday-Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm, Sunday 1:00pm-6:00pm
