Spring Creek Forest Preserve features a forest trail through dense deciduous woodland with dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy, located in north Garland near Holford Road. The 250-acre preserve protects an old-growth bottomland hardwood forest and native prairie along Spring Creek, divided into four distinct areas with more than four miles of meandering dirt trails and four miles of paved trails. Visitors can hike through oak forest, explore native wildflowers and grasses, and watch for nearly 200 bird species including Painted Buntings and Great Blue Herons, making it one of the best bird-watching sites in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The preserve offers guided walks, volunteer conservation projects, and a monthly speaker series led by experts, with most activities free and open to the public. A pavilion with stone benches and a pavilion provides gathering spots. The preserve is accessible from multiple trailheads and suits families, nature enthusiasts, and scientists interested in this biological treasure.
