About Smith Library of Regional History

Smith Library of Regional History occupies the second floor of Oxford Lane Library and preserves materials documenting Butler County and Southwest Ohio history. Visitors explore an archive of paper records, maps, historical newspapers, and photographs alongside books, directories, and yearbooks. The collection began with donations from William E. Smith, a Miami University history professor and his spouse Ophia D. Smith, a local historian who co-authored History of Southwestern Ohio in 1964. The library, established by the Smith Family in 1981, has grown primarily through community donations over decades. Researchers and local history enthusiasts use the facility to study regional heritage and genealogy. The library operates weekday mornings and afternoons, with Saturday appointments available by request. It is located in Oxford, Ohio.
