Smith Farm at Atlanta History Center tells the story of Georgia farm life and enslavement through Atlanta's oldest surviving farmhouse. Visitors walk through historic buildings moved to the site for preservation, including an enslaved people's cabin with its associated garden. The landscape features historic crop varieties in the fields, a kitchen garden, a swept yard planted with heirloom flowers, and native plantings around the outbuildings. Heritage-breed sheep, goats, chickens, and turkeys live on the farm. Visitors explore the gardens and buildings to discover the stories of enslaved people who worked the property. On Saturdays, heritage-breed sheep or goats take weekly strolls across campus. The farm represents a working slaveholding farm of the Atlanta area in the 1860s, offering families and history enthusiasts a chance to understand agricultural life during that era.
