Singer Castle on Dark Island is a 100-year-old castle open to the public for guided tours of its intricate architecture, original furnishings, and secret passages. Visitors take a 45-minute guided tour through four floors featuring the Great Hall, Library, Dining Room, Breakfast Room, Drawing Room, Wicker Room, Loggia, Terrace, Bedrooms, Guest Rooms, and fourth-floor Dormitory. The tour includes views of entrances to many secret passages throughout the structure. The castle was built as a hunting lodge for Commodore Frederick Gilbert Bourne and contains artifacts and furnishings original to the property. The tour involves climbing 80 steps from the Great Hall, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. A video viewing room is available for those unable to tour the interior. The castle accommodates visitors arriving by private boat, Uncle Sam Boat Tours from Alexandria Bay, or shuttle service. Singer Castle is located on Dark Island in Chippewa Bay, New York, in the 1000 Islands region.
