Roper Lake State Park sits at the base of Mt. Graham, 6 miles south of Safford, and offers a 32-acre lake surrounded by three campgrounds and shoreline cabins for overnight stays. Visitors fish the lake, kayak on the water, and watch birds across multiple habitat zones. The park maintains a visitor center with a gift shop, Junior Ranger programs, and restrooms, plus a park store stocked with fishing equipment, bait, field guides, and souvenirs. Picnic areas dot the grounds with tables, grills, and shade ramadas, and group areas accommodate up to 50 people. The neighboring Dankworth Pond State Park, 3 miles south, adds hiking trails and additional water access, with a birding program at the pond trailhead. The park charges admission by vehicle or bicycle, with prices published online. Active duty, reserves, and National Guard members receive 50% off day-use entrance.
