About Rocky Mount State Historic Site

Rocky Mount State Historic Site in Johnson City preserves the 1791 homestead where Governor William Blount, a signer of the U.S. Constitution, governed the Southwest Territory from 1790 to 1792. Visitors explore historic cabins and experience life on the frontier through guided tours led by costumed interpreters who demonstrate early settler activities. Heritage animals inhabit the grounds alongside the restored buildings. The site offers two tour types: a first-person interpretive walking tour through the historic house and grounds, which involves stairs and inclines, and a self-guided tour through the indoor Massengill Museum Gallery, which is climate-controlled and fully accessible. Tours operate Wednesday through Saturday, with times published on the venue's website. Tickets are sold online through the venue's site. The historic house lacks air conditioning, and the grounds are not entirely ADA compliant.
