The Rock Island County Historical Society in Moline preserves and shares the history of Rock Island County through museum exhibits, guided tours, and research facilities. Visitors explore three buildings on the historic campus: the Atkinson-Peek House Museum, a preserved 19th-century Italianate home with period furnishings; the Carriage House Museum, displaying agricultural tools, horse-drawn vehicles, and rural artifacts; and the Research Library and Archives. The library houses over 400 archival collections, 10,000 photographs, 6,000 books, 40,000 vertical files, nine local newspapers, and more than 600 reels of microfilm. Guided tours of the Atkinson-Peek House are available Saturday afternoons. The society hosts Friends Luncheons and seasonal dinners continuing traditions begun in the early 1900s. The museum suits genealogists, historians, and community members researching family roots or local farming heritage.
