About Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House

Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House are historic residences in Moline's Overlook District operated by the William Butterworth Foundation. Visitors take docent-guided tours through both homes, which once belonged to John Deere's descendants. The Deere-Wiman House, built in 1872, features a Victorian-era elevator believed to date from the 1890s, a Kimball pipe organ in the library, and a multi-nozzle spa shower from the Victorian period. Butterworth Center, constructed as a wedding gift in 1892, contains a Bennett-Stannke organ restored in 2008 and a library built in 1917. Both properties include seven acres of formal gardens, walkways, a child-size playhouse, and a three-story carriage house. Tours begin at the west side entrance and typically run about ninety minutes. The sites also serve as meeting space for more than 200 not-for-profit organizations and host educational and cultural programming throughout the year.
