About Pioneer Tree Farm

Pioneer Tree Farm in McHenry offers visitors the chance to cut their own organically grown Christmas tree from the farm's fields. The trees have been grown without pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals since 1973 and are hand-pruned on-site. Beyond tree selection and cutting, the farm provides hayrides through the property and indoor activities in a wood stove-heated warming house. Visitors can participate in candle dipping, observe a Dutch oven demonstration at the campfire, and enjoy free coffee and cocoa while browsing crafts. The farm keeps live chickens on display and offers a woodworking activity. The operation is run largely by volunteers from the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, and a portion of sales supports that environmental organization. The farm is located in McHenry, approximately fifty miles north of Chicago.
