Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas houses ten historic structures staged to showcase different aspects of Gillespie County history, where visitors walk through the grounds examining hundreds of artifacts, audio experiences, and virtual exhibits connected to descendants of original German settlers. The Walton-Smith Log Cabin, Kammlah House, Schandua House, Blacksmith Shop, and 1885 County Jail are among the buildings on the grounds. Visitors can explore how settlers labored, traveled, cooked and clothed themselves. The museum also hosts programs including Conversational German classes and History of Churches lectures, plus seasonal events like Kinderfest and the Singing Christmas Tree concert. A day pass grants 24-hour access to Pioneer Museum, Vereins Kirche Museum, and the Historic Jail when open. The museum is located at 325 W Main St. in Fredericksburg and publishes admission prices online. Students pay $5 instead of the regular adult rate, according to pioneermuseum.org.
