About North Carolina Aviation Museum

The North Carolina Aviation Museum and Hall of Fame preserves military and civilian aviation history across 20,000 square feet of hangar space near Asheboro Regional Airport. Visitors explore aircraft spanning from World War I to the present, including a Piper J-3 Flitfire flown by Orville Wright, a Boeing Stearman, RAF Bulldog trainer, P-51 scale models, and a Stolp Starduster. The museum displays military vehicles, weapons, equipment, and uniforms alongside wartime memorabilia and artwork. A flight simulator offers hands-on experience, while engine displays feature a 28-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp, the largest-displacement aviation piston engine mass-produced in the USA. The gift shop houses one of the Southeast's largest collections of historically accurate aircraft models. Exhibits change regularly. The museum operates Wednesday through Sunday in Asheboro, North Carolina. Group tours, photo shoots, and private events are available by arrangement.
