About Neil Armstrong's First Flight Location

Neil Armstrong's First Flight Location in Warren features a half-scale replica of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module, the spacecraft Armstrong piloted to the moon. Visitors view the nearly 13-foot-tall, 12-foot-wide module, which stands as a detailed recreation of the original craft. The replica includes all the spacecraft's antennae, operational lights and attachments. Photos of Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin are affixed to the windows, and a cockpit photo is displayed at the entry door. The module weighs about two tons and was built by welding instructors, retired ironworkers, welders and die makers using blueprints from the original spacecraft's designer. The site honors the Warren native and serves as an educational resource for children. The location stands where Warren Airways once operated, connecting Armstrong's childhood interest in flying to his later achievements in space exploration.
