About Merced County Courthouse Museum
The Merced County Courthouse Museum occupies 8,500 square feet within a three-story courthouse built in 1875, one of California's oldest standing structures. Visitors explore permanent and rotating exhibits depicting the history of Merced County and settlers of the Great Central Valley. Current and past exhibits include America 250 – Merced County, Soundscapes of Merced, In Memory of the Old Library, and Old Courthouse: 150 Years, 150 Stories. The building itself showcases Italianate architecture, designed by State Capital Architect Albert A. Bennett, and appears on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is staffed by volunteers dedicated to preserving and sharing regional history. A gift shop offers items related to local heritage. The museum is located at 21st and N Streets in Merced, California, and serves visitors interested in Central Valley history and historic architecture.
