About Kern County Museum

Founded in 1941, the Kern County Museum showcases Kern County history through thousands of historic and cultural artifacts displayed across more than 56 historic buildings on 16 landscaped grounds in Bakersfield, California. Visitors walk through exhibits covering California's Gold Rush, settlement and development, and the region's oil and agriculture industries. The Lori Brock Discovery Center, included with admission, offers children hands-on learning through STEAM Town, where they explore different types of energy in the Power Lab, use open-ended tools for creative play in the Makers Annex, and participate in daily crafts in Art Express. The museum charges admission, with prices published online, and accepts group tours of 20 or more people by advance reservation. Members receive free admission. The ACM Reciprocal Network provides 50% off general admission for up to six people, according to kerncountymuseum.org.
