Fort Amanda Memorial Park preserves the site of a War of 1812 military outpost near Lima, Ohio. Visitors explore the park's eleven acres on half-mile hiking trails that wind through wooded ravines, descend to the Auglaize River, and lead to a granite monument marking the original fort's location. The park includes a cemetery with seventy-five headstones honoring unknown American soldiers from the war. Fort Amanda was built in late 1812 as a supply post and hospital along the river's head of navigation, where soldiers constructed approximately seventy-five pirogues during winter to transport troops and provisions. Though the original structure no longer stands, the site offers fishing access to the Auglaize River and wooded picnic areas with tables and grills. A reservable shelter house and restroom facilities support group gatherings and family outings in this historic landscape rich with plant and animal life.
