About History Museum of Carteret County

The History Museum of Carteret County preserves and interprets the lives of people who have lived in this coastal region from Cedar Point to Cedar Island. Visitors experience the county's history through collections of documents, photographs, and objects that illustrate the lives of rural inhabitants spanning from the 18th century to the present day. The museum features rotating and long-term exhibits on local history, along with a genealogical research center where visitors can conduct family history research. The Jack Spencer Goodwin Library and Research Center supports this work. The museum also hosts programs and presentations that highlight the area's past. A gift shop offers books by local authors and regional items. Located downtown in Morehead City near the old Train Depot and waterfront, the museum occupies a former grocery and furniture store converted to its current use in 2001. The facility provides free parking and Wi-Fi for all visitors.
