About Highlands Center for Natural History

The Highlands Center for Natural History is a nonprofit nature center located in the Prescott National Forest that offers hiking trails, educational programs, and gardens for visitors of all ages. The site features three miles of hiking trails through Ponderosa pine forests, riparian habitats, and chaparral woodland, including the accessible three-quarter-mile Stretch Pebble Loop Nature Trail. The James Family Discovery Gardens showcase native plants and the biological diversity of the Central Highlands. Youth programs and adult programs provide outdoor learning experiences throughout the year, with guided naturalist hikes and custom group programs available. The center includes the Benson Family Nature Store, which sells nature books, guides, and gifts. Most grounds are wheelchair accessible, including the Discovery Gardens with a paved loop. The facility is located in Prescott, Arizona, on South Walker Road in the Prescott National Forest.
