About Hauberg Museum

The Hauberg Museum occupies the west end of Watch Tower Lodge in Rock Island, Illinois, and presents the history of the Sauk and Meskwaki people through interpretive maps, artifacts, and seasonal dioramas. Visitors take a free handheld audio tour following an entire year in the lives of these Native American tribes. Groups of more than ten may arrange a guided tour by calling ahead. The Refectory, located in the east end of Watch Tower Lodge, features a permanent exhibit on the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Depression-era relief program that stationed Company 1674 at the site. The CCC built two-thirds of Watch Tower Lodge, created trails, planted thousands of trees, and completed other site improvements. Visitors can explore exhibits documenting tribal life in the nineteenth century and view artwork by artists who recorded Sauk and Meskwaki culture. The museum hosts seasonal lectures and programs exploring Native American history and heritage.
